Tim Morder - Histio Hike Shenandoah, Histio Warrior and Association Ambassador
I am passionate about the Histio Hike and helping others by providing hope, awareness, and funding as the research for a cure continues.
My story began in 2021 with a Diagnosis of one type of Hystiocytosis, where my body was producing to many histiocytes (a form of white blood cells).
At the time of diagnosis, I was told (correctly) that there was no known treatment. Finding information on this rare condition at the Histiocytosis Association web site, histio.org, I reached out to the Director for guidance and a list regarding doctors doing research into this very rare condition. I quickly made an appointment with one of the leading research healthcare institutions in the country.
My doctor there confirmed my diagnosis and performed a DNA test looking for chromosome defects and indeed found a varience in me. I then enrolled in an NIH clinical study to prove the effectiveness of a leading edge immunotherapy drug predicted to help my body heal itself.
Almost immediately after starting treatment, my symptoms were gone. This pill worked amazingly well on me! In November of 2022 the FDA approved this drug for the treatment of various types of Histiocytosis.
I am very proud of being in the NIH Clinical Trial resulting in this treatment becoming openly available. I now serve others as a Histiocytosis Volunteer Ambassador providing hope and awareness to our community. The Histiocytosis Association is dedicated to supporting and empowering the patients and families who live with these devastating diagnosis' every day.
