Donate to Team Ian!
The weekend of April 25-27th, I will once more be in beautiful Shenandoah National Park along with Ryan (Ian will be at school in New Haven, CT sadly) to host our 16th Histio Hike Shenandoah to bring together histio patients families and supporters to raise critical funds for histiocytic disorders.
If you've received this plea to donate, you likely know Ian's story. But here is the summary. In October 2006 he was diagnosed with langerhans cell histiocytosis (LCH) at 15 months and spent the next 4 1/2 years fighting the disease before finally being declared no active disease and having his port removed in April 2011. It was a long and arduous journey for Ian and for our family. But through it all we were supported by the amazing community of the Histiocytosis Association. To give back and help identify better treatments and ultimately a cure, we started Histio Hike Shenandoah in 2010 to bring together families and loved ones for a fun and thoughtful weekend in Shenandoah.
We have had amazing support for the hike over the last 15 years and have raised more than $930,000 for research and family programs. But the work is not done, we still need better treatments, we still need research to uncover the causes of these disorders, and we still need family programs to support patients still fighting. Thank you for donating and supporting this cause that is near and dear to our family. We hope you will join us in the mountains!
One-hundred percent of donations go to the Histiocytosis Association in support of its mission and programs.
-------------------
Histiocytic disorders are a group of diseases that occur when there is an over-production of white blood cells known as histiocytes that can lead to organ damage and tumor formation. This group is made up of a wide variety of conditions that can affect both children and adults.
While the search for more effective treatments and, ultimately, a cure continues, the Histiocytosis Association is dedicated to supporting and empowering the patients and families who live with these devastating diseases every day.
